THE CHRISTMAS TAG

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas tag.

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
It has to be Home Alone. We watched it every year since I was little. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas if you haven’t watched it at least once.
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Always on Christmas morning in our pyjamas. It made sense, Santa Claus brings presents on Christmas Eve, when you’re sleeping. Even now, all the gifts appears during the night and if you happen to hear someone sneaking around the Christmas tree, didn’t happen.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
One year, when it was seriously cold in December, grandpa poured some water by the house and made an ice rink. A small one, but we spend the whole Christmas Eve outside skating. It was so exiting.
4. Favourite festive food?
Besides chocolate…herring is on a tip of my tongue. Honestly, half of everything on Christmas Eve is herring. It’s an old tradition; no meat on a table on Christmas Eve. Fish not included. And as it has to be 12 different dishes (again, tradition), there is lots of herring. If you want more detail, herring with cinnamon would be the one. I know it sounds…weird, but you have to actually try it.
5. Favourite Christmas gift?
I had to thing on this one for a while. I guess the title should go to my old valet. I got it for Christmas few years back. It used to be purple and fitted lots of junk I don’t actually need. Yeah, I have a thing for purple or violet things…
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Tangerine. For some unknown reason the smell of tangerine always associates with Christmas.
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
It’s always a family time. Besides that, just the standard national traditions. When it gets dark (so around the 6pm) or when everything is prepared the oldest person in the family sits at the end of the table to mark the start of the Christmas Eve supper. There is always an empty space with plate and everything for a recently passed away or unable to be here member of a family.
8. What tops your tree?

For years and years it has been an old ornament, which is looking worst for wear as of now, but lots of our Christmas tree ornaments are old and holds sentimental value.
9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I believe every child asks for a pet during Christmas. Be it dog, cat or any other that holds your fancy. I really wanted a dog as a child. Too bad my mom didn’t share the sentiment.
10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Spending time with my family and friends. Watching old Christmas movies and generally having fun. And snow.
